WoW Mods

Some people ask, what is a WoW Mod?

A WoW Mod is a program created for WoW by the community of players of WoW. Blizzard has done a great job in letting others create add-ons for WoW, this enhances the gaming experience of a lot of players. There is no need to be scared of mods. Blizzard has done a great job at protecting the players from getting their account hacked from Mods. I am not saying that it can’t happen, but it is unlikely that it will happen. Always as with anything foreign to the game you are playing use caution! I have been a Guild Master in WoW for some time and in this time I have found many mods to be very helpful for a Guild. Later I will probably go into detail on each of the mods, but for now I just wanted to let people that may not use mods, know that they are not bad, and can really improve your game experience.

Some great sites to get mods from are:

http://wowui.worldofwar.net/

http://wow.curse.com/downloads/addons/

http://files.wowace.com/

Well that’s all I have for now. Till next time.

Patch 2.0.1 - 492 MB Patch

Postnote : Apparently the note I originally posted up last night is not the updated one. Ah well. The post has been edited to include in the correct one (hopefully).

Yep, while the servers are offline, you can download the new patch like now. :) Just log in as per normal to start the patch download.

This patch was coming down over the past few weeks in bits and pieces so the last bit was just a little bit over 2 MB. However, if not, well, 492 MB is a pretty long download. Ah well. Better to get started before the American players wake up. Then it's definitely havoc to play around with.

Anyway, here are the patch notes showing the current updates. Definitely different from the PTR patch note page. More after the jump.

Note : Some of the links are not updated yet to reflect the new changes.

Tantivy, Tantivy, Tantivy...A Hunting We Will Go..

Xeria is my hunter. She hasn't gotten a lot of screentime with me, but I thought I would remedy that this weekend. She and Warg (her pet wolf) have leveled along together nicely to 17. I thought it was about time I send him off to the kennel (aka stable) and spend some time with another pet so I can teach Warg some new tricks.

Originally I was going to find a Mountain Boar of some fashion. I like their rush attack. Whilst I was looking for the proper boar to tame, I got eaten by a Loch Crocolisk. Hmmm.. They're tough. Let's try that instead.

It didn't take long to ghost back out from the cemetary in Loch Modan. I love being able to run along the top of the water. What a kick. And I found out you can swim as a ghost and explore the underwater world too, if you're so inclined.

Anyway, I finally got back to my crocolisk ravaged body. I timed it carefully, then returned to life. I made sure I was fully healed and ready to go (and did a little armor buffing just to be safe) and went to find my crocolisk. It didn't take long. Those suckers are all over the shoreline out there.

I stood my ground and sent waves of love at my chosen Croc. He tore me up a bit, but in the end, love won out. I named my new pet Crackles. (I wanted Mr. Crackles but that seems to violate the naming pattern. Why Crackles, you might ask? My daughter, when she's mad and wants to let me know it, tells me she's going to crackle me. It's a perfect fit.) Now I have Crackles at my side. I'm slowing winning him over with lots of combat and stuffing him silly with fish, bear steaks and blood sausage. Now we get to crackle things together.

New Trading Card Game

We heard about the new WoW training card game. That sounded interesting enough by itself. Then we heard that there were rare cards to be found that could be converted to in-game items. Now that was something to go for!!

Our local hobby store was sold out of starter decks (which I didn't think would have rare cards anyway), so we went ahead and bought a box of booster packs. I was going to suggest we /random for the box, but instead we divvied out the packs between us. There was much opening and looking at the cards, but the pile of new packs got smaller and smaller and still no rare card. I opened the last one. Nothing. I resigned not to pout and got up. There it was! One more pack still to be opened. I'd been sitting on it. I opened the pack, trying not to get excited, but I couldn't help it. I barely glanced at the other cards as I flipped through the pack. And there it was. Mister Landro Longshot himself - with my beautiful scratch-off code at the bottom of his card. YES!!!!!

I grabbed up my precious booty and ran for the computer (I think I said 'sorry' or something to my beloved spouse, but I'm not sure on that point). I carefully scratched off the the little bar. That was one looooooooong number. I entered it into carefully into the promotion site. I had to tell it my region and server and then I was finally given the code to use in game. I wrote down another looooooooooooong number and then triple-checked it to make sure I got it all right.

Finally! Time to log into WoW and claim my precious merchandise. There was only one small catch. I had to claim it from Landro himself in Booty Bay - someplace I'd never been.

I ported to Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands, and then boarded the left-hand-most ship for Theramore Isle. From there I swam north to Ratchet. I passed a few places that looked somewhat dangerous, but managed to avoid any real trouble. Once in Ratchet I believe I got my flight point and then boarded the ship heading out to Booty Bay. I found Landro on the docks.

Landro Longshot

I explanined to him what I was here for. He demanded my password. I painstakingly entered that loooong code I'd written down - again triple-checking it before telling him I was ready. At last! The Tabard of Flame. I tried it on and had a good look at myself. It's quite nice. The colors are so vivid.

Tabard of Flame

"Thanks, Landro! Hope to be seeing you again sometime..."

Wrong Turn

So Zhahara and I (Kattina) were adventuring the other day. We had a nice little pick-up group going. Things were challenging, but not too bad. Experience and loot were had by all. And then we decided to go 'this' direction. Uh Oh! As you turn the corner and death looks you square in the eye, that's when you wish you'd gone the other way.

Apparently the Dark Side is Furry

I tried WoW again last night. This time I made a human paladin on Maelstrom (and I apologize - it should have been Proudmoore, not Proudmoor). I got off to a good start this time. I enjoyed the mindless whacking away of the paladin. I even leveled enough to buy additional skills.

A little while into my looting and whatnot, I ran into a slight hitch. My inventory was filling up and I could figure out no way to get rid of anything. (No, I didn't read the manual. I was pretending to be a guy :P ) I wandered about, and finally discovered...dat dah dah... a merchant. A series of merchants even. I started a trade with one. I found a tab called Merchant Buyback. Coooool! We're cookin' now. Um, no. I dragged things from my inventory to his buyback screen, but soon the slots were filled. And even worse, things weren't going away. (And I still have no idea how I would drop something.) In desperation, I turned to my trusty IRC comrades. Surely someone has played WoW and knows these delicate intricacies. Finally!! Put it on the regular merchant tab and just right click the item I want to sell. It worked like magic! Woohoo!

I learned something else while completing my early quests. I learned what happens when you die. So that's what those graveyards are for. In fact I got to experience the special joy of running back to my rotting corpse a number of times. I decided that when I have cash, it's really worth it just to pay lady death for a quick on-the-spot rez and get my gear fixed later. (While beating my head against the desk over the merchant thing earlier, I did figure out how to get gear repaired. Go me.)

Soon I had learned what my paladin trainer had to teach me. I obtained a quest to deliver a document to a nearby city. Road trip! On the way, I noticed a small house, windows glowing with light, just to the right of the road through the trees. Of course I had to check it out. And there I met her. A creature of legend....The Crazy Cat Lady!!!!!

Crazy Cat Lady

I can't afford one of the furry little purr-balls yet, but we'll see what the future holds.

Toying with the Dark Side

After being tempted to the Dark Side by a friend, I downloaded, installed and patched Wold of Warcraft for the first time last night. My husband just shook his head sadly.

I'm not really a PvP kind of player. I don't want to attack (most) other players. I want to kill the bad guys. Of course I don't really know this player base yet. They may change my mind.

I started out on the server of Proudmoor with a night elf druid. Please don't ask me about the ears. I can't think about the ears. I'll pretend they're horns or ...something. I'm photo-shopping that area of my mind's eye, even as we speak.

On the plus side, the starter information was very helpful. I was able to jump right into a quest and enter combat immediately. Once I bothered reading the little exclamation point notes, it was even easy to loot the things I killed. I'm not sure what to do with most of what I got, or if I need to worry about quantity of items or bulk yet. That will come in time I guess. I'll play more tonight (now that I won't be spending all night trying to download that network choker of a file) and see how it goes.

What I've learned so far:

The graphics seem more 'cartooney' than Horizons or Saga of Ryzom.

It is much easier to get started in the game than with Ryzom.

The interface is much less obtrusive than either Ryzom or Horizons. I see a lot more screen and a lot less buttons. (I'm not sure if this is good or bad yet.)

I have to say I'm interested enough to continue with my trial period but I haven't committed my gaming 'heart' to it yet.

New WoW Site Look

Let's see... beta new forum format (with an interesting favicon), new website look. At the same time, servers restats twice in the last 7 days. How much longer do we all have to wait before Burning Crusades is released? I hope there's a downloadable version. Hate to think of forking out more money to buy the actual gameset.

And looking at Patch 1.12, how big are the battlegrounds going to be if it's now open to all servers? *shudder* The queues are now easily 2 hrs long. Looks like it may be longer. Looks like not since the wait is usually due to lack of players. Although, on the server I'm on, what I hear is that it's usually less Alliance players compared to Horde players. Most matches are 5 Alliances to 10 Horde players. Well, let's see what happens. I'm sure the usual moaning and groaning will take place.

Oh, and my sister is now blogging about Lineage2. Let's see what she has to say from now on. (And probably some mudslinging about me playing WoW. I can't help it if Lineage2 doesn't patch well for Malaysian servers.)
