PKO - Pirate Life

With a lot of time on my hands (quake pwnage), I'm probably going to end up writing a bit more than usual in this blog. Well, maybes anyways.

I'm on the left, not the little child on the right! One feature of PKO that I do like is that there's a direction marker in the form of a little arrow on the flow. Key in the coords and it will help you to move to the right direction. Very nifty and very useful in a game where maps are huge. Although, I'm not sure whether that feature came from another MMO or was put there by the PKO devs.

As for questing, I'm sort of stuck at level 25 at the moment as it's not exactly that easy to level up a hunter. Reason being is that defense-wise, I'm very low there, even with upgraded armor. Then again, I'm tackling mobs that are 2 levels higher than me and they are DPS mobs. Of course, that is purely from a grinding point of view. Of course, as usual, am trying out a guide.

From a questing point of it, it's not exactly that simple. There are 3 major continents with 3 major cities in that area. Most quests are restricted by the level of your character so what is opened to you after level 10 can be strictive, especially after you've completed your class quests.

Skill wise, it's not a lot. At level 25, I have a total of 4 skills, out of which only one is not passive i.e. dual shot. These are taught via bought spellbooks from a Grocer, of all people. And surprisingly, it's the Physician that sells food, not the Grocer.

Oh, and I got to the dreaded King Clam in the Story Questline. It's a mob boss that spawns every 5-10 min and there's a huge audience awaiting for him. Pity him really. Everyone is after his pearl and he keeps getting respawned only to be pwned by a merciless player. I got a lucky break where I was the only one there and he drop the pearl after the 1st kill. Wheee!

Playing in free MMOs is a challenge though. By that, I mean that you tend to meet up with a lot of young players i.e. below 18, who are yelling scammers in main channels or pestering you to power level them up. One thing for sure though, they seem to be friendly in a certain extent but in another, maybe not so if they feel that you've taken advantage of them in one way or another. So, in one sense, if you ask them for help, they usually will. But if they ask you for help and you don't offer help, be prepared for the barrage of insults that may or may not arise.

I'm still looking around PKO and still in a bit of an exploring mode. It does have fantastic colors and the graphics are eye-catching. Makes a nice relief from WoW where the brown tends to stick out more prevalently than any other color. Big weapons and fancy body revealing outfit is a must for MMOs so expect to see that a lot, even in PKO.

PKO is not complicated. Ok, there's a bit of a problem with having a quest database up but at least mobs are documented well on their forums. Playwise, it seems very linear and there's not much option in trying different builds though. With no option to actually reset your points, it's approximation work on the forums.

Ah well. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

PKO - Pirating in cutesy style

It's like having your own little anime character come to life in piratey sense. Of course, the wackiness from animes and mangas comes to life with creative weapons and ships, not to mentioned a lot of Pokemon style animals.

As one website accurately puts it, it's like playing Ultima online in a isometric environment but with the 3D graphics, it does make easier playing.

One thing that I do like about the game is that it's easy to play and so far, it mets the instant gratification element very quickly. However, once you've gotten over all the initial levels of the game, it then becomes a difficult grind to level up. Not too bad, just tedious.

I think mazes are some sort of dungeon similar to WoW's instances. Although, reading the forums is not exactly that easy and with the game still in Open Beta mode, a lot of things may be susceptible to changes.

However, since starting the gameplay over the weekend, it took me about 9 hours to hit level 22 following the Hunter's guide posted on the forums. Perhaps I did it too well because after that, I found out that there was a story quest sideline for loot and something known as Life Exp.

Information is still scarce at best but once posted on the forums, someone will definitely respond back. For the guides, at least there's no screaming in big headlines "THIS IS MY FAQ! DO NOT TAKE CREDIT AWAY FROM ME!!" Saw that alot in the international FlyFF forums. Sometimes, you want to tell them that it would be a good idea to have an Open-Source guide rather than one where people are yelling about recognition.

Still reading and still trying to find my way along in this game. It's mindless and brainless hack-and-slash so it's a great way to sort-of relax away from WoW. Since Norton Antivirus doesn't agree with FlyFF's Anti-Hacking solution, I have to put that aside for the time being. Rappelz on the other hand, got updated and I have to now download a totally new programme of 1GB in filesize but not from FilePlanet as they didn't use them this time.

Anyway, back to PKO, I'll put up a picture once I get a decent one. I thought I had one in the beginning but somehow, I couldn't find it anywhere. Ah well.

Pirate King Online

Being pwned by a 7.2 quake, I'm turning to other games to have a looksee around. One of them happened to be Pirate King Online (PKO) . I downloaded this program awhile back from FilePlanet but never got around to installing it. Well, did it today, and found out that the company was located in Singapore.

Ah! Blissful speed again. Well, until I go from one zone to another. There's still about a 1-2 min delay but after that, it's literally smooth sailing. The camera views are still a bit of a pain but only because I got used to having the freedom to move it around a lot. In this game, you can't really do it.

PKO is still in beta mode so only 3 out of 6 classes are open for playing. Made a mess out of the Hunter I wanted so looks like I have to restart it. Luckily it doesn't take too long. There's this nifty option where you enter in coords and a yellow directional arrow helps to point you to that spot. Pretty good, I'd say.

Ok, I'm off there for awhile. Until my connection gets back to normal and can move on back to regular WoW sessions.
